"Your Apprentice Of Today
Is Your Business Of Tomorrow"

Did you know that the Welsh Government believes in
and supports apprenticeships in Wales as they fuel the future
essential skills base of our nation?

Apprenticeships in Wales help to inspire
success in the individual and bring huge
benefits to the workplace.

 Are you ...
an Apprentice? an Employer?

An Apprenticeship could be for you if you’ve got a good idea of where you want to go with your career and like the idea of earning while you learn. You’ll get top quality training, developing skills and gaining qualifications on the job.
  • First you’ll need to decide which career suits you best.
  • Next, you’ll have to decide whether you can commit to the demands of an Apprenticeship. Being an apprentice means juggling work and study over the long term.
  • Generally, an Apprenticeship takes between one and four years to complete. The length varies depending on the sector, the qualification you’re going for and the skills you already have.

Apprenticeships are for those aged 16 and over. There are 3 levels available.

1. Foundation Apprenticeships

  • These can give you the skills apprentices need for your chosen career and allow entry to an Apprenticeship.
  • You’ll work towards work-based learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 2, Essential Skills and, in some cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification such as a BTEC.
  • The entry qualifications (GCSE grades or equivalent) vary depending on the work
  • You may have to sit an entrance test and be interviewed by the employer
  • Apprenticeships cover many career areas, such as caring, engineering, office work, construction work, sport and recreation.
  • Vacancies will vary depending on where you live.
  • You may attend day or block release at a college or training centre

2. Apprenticeship

  • Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, Essential Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge based certificate such as a BTEC.
  • To start this programme, you should ideally have five GCSEs (grade C or above) or have completed a Foundation Apprenticeship.
  • You may have to sit an entrance test and be interviewed by the employer
  • Apprenticeships are available in many career areas such as caring, engineering, business administration, construction work, sport and recreation
  • Vacancies will vary depending on where you live
  • Get your NVQ at Level 3 and it can lead to a job, promotion and/or study at a HND, HNC or degree Level (4-5)

3. Higher Apprenticeships

Higher Apprenticeships work towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 4 and, in some cases, a knowledge-based qualification such as a Foundation degree.

" I have attended other courses in a similar vein and none has generated the ability to take the information and apply it back to the workplace as I expect this to. "
